my original guess i considered was a bullet, for all the reasons mentioned. The reason Iron ore didn't make sense to me, is because Iron ore is unrefined. The riddle to me was describing a refined, usable object, hence the phrase, "beaten and burned," both verbs are past tense. I was being modern so bullet came to mind rather than a sword.
And your now probably going to tell me that bullets are not made from iron ore, and I honestly dont know. But there are other alloys that go through a similar process as iron ore.
